The village of Plakias is located on Crete's unspoiled south coast, an idyllic location where visitors can experience traditional Cretan hospitality and explore the glories of the islands unforgettable landscapes. Plakias is situated on a fabulous long curving bay so that even in the height of summer it is always possible to find a quiet spot. The gently shelving sandy beach makes Plakias bay an ideal spot for children, drenched with sun throughout the day it's hard to imagine a more welcoming location for a beach holiday. But Plakias is more than just a beautiful beach, the village has all the amenities to provide a dream holiday. A row of beachside tavernas open their doors onto the bay, providing unforgettable sunsets for diners as the sun sinks in a crimson glow over the western headland. There are more tavernas on the Main Street, all family owned and all providing their own particular versions of traditional Greek and Cretan cuisine. It's hard to express the pleasure that comes from dining on fish caught that day by the taverna owner and cooked by his mother, whilst watching the sun slowly set over the Libyan sea. Plakias is also well provided with supermarkets, most of which also sell the renowned local wine and olive oil, there are also small gift shops selling locally made jewellery and ceramics. For walkers and nature lovers the area is a paradise, within minutes of leaving the door of Anna Plakias Apartments you can be strolling through ancient olive groves in the valley which leads down to the village, for the more adventurous the south coast gorges of Imbros, Asfendos and Kallikratis are little more than an hours drive away through dramatic coastal scenery and there are day-long excursions to the islands stunning Samaria Gorge from the village. Inland, the beautiful Amari valley makes a wonderful day out with its ancient frescoed chapels and welcoming village tavernas or visitors can take a boat trip from nearby Hora Sfakion to the picture postcard village of Loutro which is only accessible by boat or on foot.

Plakias is a 90 minute drive from the international airports of Heraklion and Chania. Rethymnon, with its wonderful Venetian harbour and atmospheric old town is just a 35 minute drive away.
